IMPORTANT NOTICE!

 Beginning June 1, 2009, a valid passport or passport card is required to cross into Mexico.
 

If traveling through Nogales, a visa must be obtained after crossing the border. No car permit required.
 

If traveling through Naco, obtain your visa in Naco and your car permit in Cananea.
 

If crossing at Aqua Prieta, both a car permit and visa can be obtained.
 

3.5 hours south of Bisbee, Arizona by car
4 hours from Tucson, Arizona by car
2.5 hours from Hermosillo, Sonora, Mexico by car

Airport
The nearest airports are Hermosillo and Tucson.
Rental car companies are available at the airport.

Direction

From Bisbee, Arizona
• Cross the border at Naco
• Proceed through the town of Naco and travel 15 miles.
• Turn right at the T which will take you to Cananea

• Turn left as you come into the town of Cananea towards the town Bacoachi this is HWY 118. It will turn into HWY 89.

• Follow through Arizpe (90 miles) to Banamichi (30 miles)

• Turn right when you arrive in Banamichi at the park that has a large rock in it.

• Follow to the plaza, La Posada del Rio Sonora will be on your right.

 

From Tucson, Arizona
• Take I-19 south and exit at Mariposa Truck crossing. Turn right and follow the road until you cross the border.
• Follow the signs to Frontera (toll road) to bypass downtown Nogales. At 21km, there is a check point to acquire your visa. Bring your passport.
• Continue south on hwy 15. 3/4 mile past the toll booth at Magdalena, take the offramp on your right (unmarked) and immediately turn left under the bridge. You will not enter Magdalena.
• Follow hwy 54 southeast through Cucurpe and turn right at Sinoquipe.
• Take hwy 89 south to Banamichi (10 minutes).
• Turn right when you arrive in Banamichi after the park that has a large rock in it. You will see signs for the hotel.
• Follow 2 blocks to the plaza, La Posada del Rio Sonora will be on your right just before the plaza. 

From Douglas, Arizona
• Cross the border at Agua Prieta.
• Turn right onto HWY 2 after you have gone through the town this will take you towards Cananea.

• Turn left as you come into the town of Cananea towards the town Arizpe HWY 89.

• Follow through Arizpe (90 miles) to Banamichi (30 miles).

• Turn right when you arrive in Banamichi at the park that has a large rock in it.

• Follow to the plaza, La Posada del Rio Sonora will be on your right.

From Hermosillo Mexico
• Proceed through Town heading north on HWY 15.

• Turn right on HWY 14 heading Northeast.

• Go through Topahue, Guadalupe, Ures, Buenos and Aires

• Turn left at Mazocahue on HWY 89.

• Go through Aurora, Baviacora, Aconchi, Huepac.

• Turn left when you arrive in Banamichi at the park that has a large rock in it.

• Follow to the plaza, La Posada del Rio Sonora will be on your right.
